A couple of months ago, we had already shared the first impressions of Humankind, new global strategy from creators Endless Space And Endless Legend. Now the release remains only a day – it's time to review. However, firstly, this game is so great that for the sake of a full view in it it would be nice to conduct at least a month, and I received a Revoy-Copia less than a week ago. And, secondly, about some aspects of the game asked us not to tell us yet. Therefore, today – only a preliminary review. However, now a lot is clear now.
Let's start with the fact that Humankind is much more like Civilization , than for previous games Amplitude. Therefore, I will mainly compare it with the main brainchild of Sid Meyer. What is it there! At first glance, the heroine of this material can easily be mistaken for a clone Sid Meier’s Civilization VI. In fact, this is fundamentally wrong, because the new project of the French studio is the Civilization VI, and Endless Legend, and even a little Endless Space 2. But, most importantly, for the most part it is still a new and very original game.
All Humankind in numbers in one minute
The story of temporary years
However, there is also a lot of familiar here. Historical eras. Miracles of the world. Multi -colored empires fighting for power over the world. The usual quartet “Food – production – science – money” (yes, now no cosmic dust). Anyone who has played any 4x strategy over the past thirty years, in Humankind will feel at home. But amplitube would not have been, do not add some unique features to your fresh creation.
The basis of everything is a completely reasonable idea that civilization is not static phenomena. They do not arise from nowhere and do not go nowhere, but form gradually, combining the features of different cultures, change over time and, in short, live. In real life, no tribes chose in advance whether to become Olmeks or, say, the Assyrians. They just survived, developed and created history. So it is here. We begin the batch literally by anyone: under the control we have only a bunch of hunters and gatherers, around – a huge unknown world around, and ahead of six historical eras (from Neolithic to modernity) through which we need to spend our wards.
It turns out, when you are not forced to choose civilization in advance, it is very convenient. For example, the wise scribes of Zhou will be more useful in the mountains, and on the seashore – burned traders of the Phoenicians
Each civilization is its time. Say, the Celts are aware of themselves as a people in ancient times, but the Russians are only in the industrial era. Well, you can feel like Soviet people only in modern times. We are free to accept any free culture and get its unique bonus, urban district and unit. And with the change of era – to make a new choice already from other options, but to maintain the legacy of the ancestors.
It probably sounds wise, but at first it looks a little wild. But in reality, the scheme is simple and logical. It fits perfectly into the game logic and really largely reflects the real historical process. The ethnogenesis of any people is a thing much more exciting than another adventure novel. And, frankly, it would be strange to wait from a bunch of half -naked savages of a clear national identity. First they need to run around, hunt mammoths and just dream, looking at the stars. And only then look for a place for the future capital, build pyramids and fly to Alpha Centaur. So do not wait for any cave Americans, led by Teddy Roosevelt and (almost), no ancient Egyptians on tanks (although the second option, in principle, is possible, but more on that below).
The approach "New Era – New Civilization" allows you to select bonuses for the situation on the map of the world. Labbed in science? Take Koreans. For a long time planning the expansion of borders? Achaemenids are suitable. Start a small victorious war with an annoying neighbor? Roman legions at your service!
The system with a change of nation comes out very flexible – it solves the problem of the same Civilization with useless bonuses and unnecessary unique units. I'm talking about a situation when some Jaguar warriors, from whom in the Stone Age there was still a sense, already completely lose their relevance to antiquity. How did the opportunity to retrain “from Aztk to the Greeks” and get as a personal Hoplite army, useful until the Middle Ages, was not enough! But now you can do this – and it's great. However, the hypothetical situation “The crossbow is knocked down by the helicopter” either no one canceled, and this is even better.
Any Babylonians or Phoenicians can still be pulled even into the cosmic era-there would be a desire. This, of course, will deprive you of new buns, but will give a bonus to glory. And for the sake of her, in fact, we all gathered here. Yes, Humankind is a huge, multifaceted fun car, which can be played exactly as you want. But the main thing is for victory – so that the score is tick.
The final counting of glasses and the definition of the winner occurs through a fixed number of moves. However, no one interferes with continuing to play further in order to open all technologies, send a mission to Mars, and at the same time, maybe to convert humanity to a radioactive ash
Peter the Great has no one has no one
Relatively speaking, Glory reflects the depth of the trace that your people left in the history of mankind, and this is the absolute measure of success. You can get glory in a variety of ways, and not only aggressive. For semi-didicars, who barely mastered the fire, an achievement worthy of the "star of the era", even a successful hunt will be considered. But the higher the development of civilization, the more difficult it is to grow further. The game begins to demand new discoveries, new territories, new victories ..
The most cool thing is that you can become the most successful people without building a single combat detachment and without winning a single battle. Moreover, there is a chance to erase all competitors from the face of the earth at all … and still lose. Simply because in absolute terms the destroyed empires were more successful than your. Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.
Another path to glory is "rival acts". The first to open writing, made a trip around the world or built a railway – get Achivka and glasses
I must say that it was the peaceful victory that seemed to me the most interesting. Maybe because the ordinary life of mankind in Humankind and without military conflicts is full of nuances that must be kept in mind all the time. Maybe because I did not have time to plunge into a modern war, where nuclear weapons, long -range artillery and aviation seriously change the rules of the game. Or maybe because combat mechanics are simply not the strongest side of Humankind.
After all, even here it was not without innovations. We were allowed not only to stupidly pushing two armies of foreheads, but also to arrange full step by step battles. To defeat the more or less serious enemy, you need to skillfully set up troops, combine their types, take into account subtleties like such as terrain and height above sea level-this, of course, is great. But the battles with direct control add too much microcontrol to the game, which is already created for fans of manual management. Therefore, soon you just start to miss the fights, giving the calculation of the results at the computer.
And it is not necessary to carry your own ideology at all at the ends of the https://gxmble-casino.co.uk/ copies. Diplomacy offers a rich set of options, even if you don’t call it some incredible gameplay breakthrough. And cultural or religious dominance is often much more important and useful than gross power. Although, of course, it all depends on the neighbors.
Technology tree seemed to be taken from Firaxis games. We are in the same way from the invention of the wheel to combat lasers, exoskeletons and thermonuclear reactors. The limit, unfortunately, is not
Make Your Own Nuclear Gandhi
Personally, in Civilization, the historical jokes in the spirit of Gandhi on the tank into the White House were always the most funny to me, and Genghis Khan shouts to him: “Employed!"" Or "Olaf Sinezubuy and Chuck Zulu meet, but do not live together yet". So, in Humankind such stories, unfortunately, is not a place. Indeed, unlike any other 4-strategies, we play not for a specific nation, but for a certain avatar. He can configure his appearance and even choose the character, and then live together countless scenarios for the development of mankind. It turns out at least no worse than the leaders, firmly assigned to each nation.
Another interesting novelty is small text quests that seriously diversify what is happening. It is pleasant that sudden events are not reduced to the choice of "+1 to the population" or "-25% to the time of studying technology". There is a story behind every case – and it's great. Save children or at home during the fire? Allow the city authorities to castrate servants or to properly pour the local administration for excessive cruelty? How to convey to the population the concept of division by zero? There are many questions, and only we have answers.
Expansion resembles Endless Legend with its imperative "One territory – one city". Unlike Civilization, settlers are not needed to capture territories. Any unit is able to establish an avanthopost, which can then be turned into a city settlement … If there is a need, of course. Let's say there is no need for a whole metropolis to just build a mine
Each choice shifts our views a little by one of the four ideological scales. Which is more important, collectivism or individualism? Own country or the whole world? Freedom or power? Tradition or progress? You decide, because each choice always has not only positive, but also negative points. In total, the real RPG is obtained, only a whole nation acts as a hero.
Perhaps the only thing that this game is missing is normal, full -fledged learning. There are detailed tips and even videos, but it does not become clearer from this. Okay, sooner or later in the nuances, even a complete beginner will understand the poke method. And he will receive … it seems, another Civilization. No, the differences, as I have already said, are full. But they are not on the general impressions that they strongly affect. Humankind is felt as a new project with the words “Sid Meier’s” in the header. But is it good or bad – decide for yourself.
The tree of social institutions allows you to build its own unique civilization. And you decide who to win back: a progressive ruler, a crazy tyrant-mracobes, or a rationally harsh Machiavelli sovereign
In the first approximation, Humankind looks like Civilization for those who are tired of Civilization. Large, complex, diverse, with its own unique vision – and at the same time classic to the brain of bones. You just need to get involved a little, and you are provided with another stroke syndrome.
